The M5 Max is where the 16-inch MacBook Pro stops being a fast laptop and becomes a workstation. The CPU is the same 18 cores as the M5 Pro, but the GPU jumps from 20 cores to 32 and memory bandwidth rises substantially above the Pro’s 307GB/s — which is the specification that matters for 3D rendering, colour grading, machine learning and effects work where the graphics side is the bottleneck.

This configuration pairs it with 36 GB of unified memory and a 2 TB SSD, so large project files live on the machine rather than on an external drive. The 16-core Neural Engine handles on-device machine learning without reaching for the cloud.

The 16.2-inch Liquid Retina XDR display runs 3456 × 2234 at 254 ppi with ProMotion to 120 Hz, 1000 nits sustained and 1600 nits peak. Ports are three Thunderbolt 5, HDMI, SDXC, headphone and MagSafe 3, with Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6. The 100 Wh battery is rated up to 22 hours of video streaming.
