The M5 Max pairs an 18-core CPU with a 32-core GPU and lifts memory bandwidth to 460GB/s, half again what the M5 Pro moves, which is what separates it in rendering, grading and machine learning work.

It arrives with 36 GB of unified memory and a 2 TB SSD. Because Apple Silicon shares one memory pool between CPU, GPU and Neural Engine, that 36 GB is available to the graphics side in full — something no laptop with discrete graphics and a fixed VRAM allocation can offer.

The 14.2-inch Liquid Retina XDR display runs 3024 × 1964 at 254 ppi with ProMotion to 120 Hz, 1000 nits sustained and 1600 peak. Three Thunderbolt 5 ports, HDMI, SDXC, headphone and MagSafe 3, with Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6. The 72.4 Wh battery is rated up to 20 hours of video streaming — the shortest in the 14-inch range, which is the trade for the extra silicon. Weight is 1.63 kg.
